CitySpace: Borough

In one of the OLDEST streets in London, Borough High Street and its surrounds, have been a buzzing epicentre of London life for over two millennia and is the area's core. To the west lies BOROUGH MARKET one of the largest and oldest food markets in London and SOUTHWARK CATHEDRAL  who’s old and new buildings are separated by an ancient alleyway which has reopened as a glazed street named Lancelot's Link. To the east is  GUY’S HOSPITAL and LONDON BRIDGE with spectacular views of London’s skyline spanning over the RIVER THAMES.

The area is a HIVE for both LEISURE and BUSINESS, with 11 of the capital’s 140 recently-launched fintech startups having chosen the popular SE1 as their postcode. By day Borough’s bustling market and tourist attractions creates a steady stream of visitors and by dusk the trendy food centre hubs such as Flat Iron Square and Mercato Metropolitano come alive!

FLAT IRON SQUARE  is just short stroll away which is one of the new FOODIE HUB of London, taking over seven railway arches. This is a line-up of bars, food vendors, restaurants, street food trucks, outdoor space and a live music venue coming together to create a casual and vibrant environment.

MERCATO METROPOLITANO is a regenerated a 150,000 sq.ft. disused RAILWAY STATION. The development carefully planned to retain the site’s original appearance is now residence to  26 different food and beverage stalls. As the name suggests, they’ve got Italian cuisine sorted, with pizza, fresh pasta, arancini, fritto misto and even craft beers from Chiswick favourites The Italian Job. But that’s just the start – you can dive into some gooey melted cheese with raclette from Champagne & Fromage, try mouth watering BBQ ribs  or sample vegan rice bowls. Turkish, Indian, Mexican, and Lebanese cuisines are all in the mix, too!

THE GARDEN is a welcome green haven for lunch, post-work drinks and dinner in the heart of the city. It is also home to an outdoor stage and weekend vintage and makers market, FLEA.

Also a short walk from the centre, you will find CROSSBONES GARDEN on nearby Redcross Way: a ceremony remembering the ‘outcast dead’ of this old paupers’ graveyard or enjoy a moment of peace at SOUTHWARK CATHEDRALS regular choral evensong service.

Transport links from Borough are vast, with the CitySpace being situated next to BOROUGH STATION. The station is served by the Northern line, with LONDON BRIDGE Station being a 5 minute walk and WATERLOO station within a 15-minute walk, offering many rail and underground services. Bus links are plentiful with bus stops in the immediate vicinity of CitySpace.
